Treating eczema with acupuncture or magnet

Chronic eczema is one of allergy reaction due to imbalance of immune system. The reason why it is defficult to treat is that it keeps occuring until the immune system works normally. The non-hygiene environment was once blamed of for chronic eczema. However, the occurence rate of chronic eczema is higher in developed country than in developing country. Now it's understood as imbalance of immune system. The immune system needs to be trained after birth in order to work properly. Too clean environment is like removing immune system of chance for training. In western medicine, prednisone cream is usually prescribed for topical application. It shuts down all of immune responses to mask symptoms. It looks like working initially but, if immune system is not balanced, eczema usually comes back. In my clinic, we help Lung, Kidney and Liver depending on pulse with either magnets or acupuncture needle using acupuncture points in the hands and feet mostly. Lung governs skin. I found most of chronic eczema patients shows either kidney yin deficiency or liver yin deficiency. So, I focus on nourishing those two organs to balance immune system. Mostly, it takes 6 ~ 12 months until eczema is gone completely.

Tourette's syndrome and acupuncture

Tics are sudden, repetitive, nonrhythmic movements (motor tics) and utterances (phonic tics) that involve discrete muscle groups. Motor tics are movement-based tics, while phonic tics are involuntary sounds produced by moving air through the nose, mouth, or throat. Tourette's syndrome is one of several tic disorders. As I mentioned earlier (please refer to post titiled 'acupuncture and balancing brain'), I usually use questionaire from Dr. Eric R Braverman to find out the composition of neurotransmitters in the brain of patients regardless of symptoms. As far as tourette's syndrome is concerned, it is Gaba that is deficient mostly. Gaba and serotonin is working as an "off-switch" in the brain, while dopamine and acetylcholine is acting like "on-switch" initiating brain system. Gaba and serotonin belongs to Yin, while dopamine and acetylcholin considers to be Yang in perspective of Oriental medicine. Tourette's syndrome can be understood as Yang excess due to deficient Yin leading to wind. Those who shows gaba deficiency are mostly evaluated as Kidney yin deficinecy or Liver yin deficiency leading to Liver yang rising in my diagnosis based on pulse and tongue. So, I focus on balancing Kidney and Liver when it comes to Tourette's syndrome. The average frequency of treatment is twice a week and the duration is three to six months depending on body conditions of patients. The most dramatic case was a patient improved to be normal after 5 times treatment with magnets (refer to post titled 'needle free acupuncture') and he got another 4 times of treatment to prevent relapse with magnets only. I rarely use needle recently except those who are addicted to needle! :)

Vibrational Medicine from Dr. Richard Gerber

I love his point of view about medicine...

"The current practice of medicine is based on the Newtonian model of reality. This model is primarily a view point which sees the world as an intricate mechanism. Doctors conceptualize the body as a type of grand machine which is controlled by the brain and peripheral nerve system. Are human beings really glorified machine? The recognition that all matter is energy forms the foundation for understanding how human beings can be considered dynamic energetic systems. Through Einstein's famous equation, E=MC2, he proved to scienctists that energy and matter are dual expressions of the same universal substance. That universal substance is a primal energy of which we are all composed. Therefore, attempting to heal the body through the manipulation of this basic vibrational or energetic level of substance can be thought of as energy medicine. Although the Einsteinian viewpoint has slowly found acceptance and application in the minds of physicists, Einstein's profound insights have yet to be incorporated into the way doctors look at human beings and illness. By realizing that humans are being of energy, one can begin to comprehend new ways of viewing health and illness. This new Einsteinian view point will not only give future doctors a unique perspective on the causes of disease, but also more effective ways by which human beings can be healed of their suffering. I found Oriental medicine is very appealing because of its strong emphasis on energy and its balanced flow throughout the body, which must be a stumbling block for conventioneers who cannot see beyond the limitations of the paradigm of materialistic science. Their unique energy systems are powerfully affected by our emotions and level of spiritual balance as well as by nutritional and environmental factors. The unseen connection between the physical body and the subtle forces of spirit holds the key to understanding the inner relationship between matter and energy, they will come closer to understanding the relationship between humanity and God".
*Therefore, in order to obtain a complete health, one shoud be understood in two but integrative ways: one in the physical levels, the other in the spiritual levels.*
What or Who is the key that connects physical levels with spiritual levels?

* The last two sentences are added by me. :)

Understanding diseases in Oriental medicine

Disease is not mere surrender to attack but also a fight for health; unless there is a fight , there is no disease. Disease is not just suffering, but a fight to maintain the homeostatic balance of our tissues, despite damage. Symptoms are not disease. Symptoms accompany disease. Symptoms are evidence of disease. But, treating symptoms is like killing the messenger for bringing bad news. In fact, treating symptoms can suppress the body's natural responses and inhibit the healing process. The many "successes" of conventional medical treatment were only temporary and often harmful, since the symptoms often returned or more threatening symptoms manifested as the body sought to reestablish its internal harmony. No matter what combination of conditions, complaints and sufferings the patient experiences at any one time, all are manifestations of an internal physiological disorder that is unique to the individual. No one organs of the body can be sick without affecting the person as a whole. Therefore, all symptoms must be taken into account and pulse should be taken to give priority in the selection of treatment at that time. We do not treat symptoms. We treat the root causes. The symptoms and pulse guides the practitioner to the root causes that need to be taken care of with preference.

Acupuncture and balancing brain

Recently, I read a book titled "The edge effect". The author is Dr.Eric R. Braverman. He is focusing on balancing brain specifically neurotransmitters in the brain when he treats his patients. There are four main neurotransmitters in the brain; dopamine, acetylcholine, gaba, serotonin. The neurotransmitter is involved in communication inside brain as well as between brain and body. He considers disease as unbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain, which leads to unbalance in the body as well leading to disease regardless of symptoms. I like his idea because it is integrative approach just as Oriental medicine is. The body is connected together. So, it should be considered integratively rather than separately, when it comes to treatment. He developed questionaire to find out which nurotransmitter is deficient and made plan to produce more neurotransmitter deficient at the moment with medication, hormone and supplement mostly. As a practitioner in acupuncture and Oriental medicine, I adapted his idea of balancing brain. I used his questionaire and tried to find any relations between deficiency of specific neurotransmitter and disease pattern in perspective of Oriental medicine. It is rarely seen dopamine deficiency. 70 % of patient is turned out to be gaba deficiency. 20% of them is serotonin deficiency. 10% of them is acetylcholine deficiency.
Gaba deficiency is understood as Liver yang rising, Liver qi stagnation, Kidney yin deficiency leading to yang rising pattern; heat, insomnia, tics, depression, stress, chronic or acute eczema etc. Gaba seemed to be related to Liver and Kidney. Serotonin deficiency is always come together with gaba deficiency. Serotonin deficiency is understood as Heart yang rising leading to palpitation and depression. So, I think Heart yang rising cannot occur by itself without underlying either Liver or Kidney yin deficiency; gaba deficiency. Moreover, those who have brain related disease like MS, Parkinson's, forgetfulness mostly shows acetylcholine deficiency in the test, which is understood as Yin deficiency or dryness in Oriental medicine. All in all, even though the information is not sufficient yet, my conclusion is that treatment in Oriental medicine could be balancing brain as well. THEN, how effectively can acupuncture balance brain?

Meridian?

Oriental medicine is based on an energetic model rather than the biochemical model of western medicine. The ancient people recognized the vital energy behind all life forms and life processes. In developing an understanding of the prevention and cure of disease, the ancient physicians discovered a system of cyclic energy flowing in the human body along specific pathways - meridians.
Each pathway is associated with a particular physiological system and internal organ. Disease is considered to arise because of deficiency or imbalance of vital energy in the energetic pathways and their associated physiological systems. The pathways or meridian of energy communicate with the surface of the body at specific locations called acupuncture points. Each point has a predictable effect upon the vital energy passing through it. Modern science has been able to measure the electrical charge at these points, thus corroborating the locations of the meridians mapped by ancients. Oriental medicine has also developed methods of determining the flow in the meridian system, using an intricate system of pulse and tongue diagnosis. Finding from these modalities are combined with other signs and symptoms to create a composite diagnosis. A treatment plan is then formulated to induce the body to a balanced state of health.

Laminine could be a significant alternative in natural treatment

Laminine is a formula that contains egg extracts and natural protein from pea and shark. Its unique function is believed to be from fibroblast growth factor (FGF) in egg extracts. FGF is like guiding light where the protein needs to go to make specific organs, muscle or vein etc in one's body. Without FGF, Laminine would be just an another supplement in the market. When I treat my patients, I always focus on how to stimulate the curing procedure in one's body. So, I asked them to think positively when having treatment because the way of thought also can determine how the body reacts to the treatment just like FGF in Laminine. And always observe the positive person improves faster than negative person. I personally took Laminine for a couple of months due to severe skin rash. It was quite effective when it's combined toghether with acupuncture and herbal supplement. It looks like Laminine is guiding where to go for the herbs or treatment taken in order to get healed in proper way. To my colleagues, I highly recommend it.
